Erin Patterson

With more than 15 years of experience advising clients on complex legal and tax matters, Erin B. Patterson, JD, CPA focuses her practice exclusively on sophisticated estate planning and estate and trust administration. She works closely with individuals and families throughout North Carolina and South Carolina to design thoughtful, tax-efficient plans that preserve wealth, protect assets, and provide clarity for future generations.

Erin brings particular depth in advising high-net-worth individuals and families, business owners, and executives on advanced planning strategies. Her experience includes the implementation of irrevocable trusts, multi-generational wealth transfer planning, closely held business succession, and income, gift, and estate tax minimization. She regularly collaborates with financial advisors, accountants, and corporate fiduciaries to ensure each client's plan is both comprehensive and coordinated.

Prior to founding Erin Patterson Law, Erin was a Partner at a Charlotte-based law firm, where she counseled high-net-worth clients on complex estate, trust, and business matters. Her legal career is complemented by her earlier experience as a Certified Public Accountant and tax consultant at a “Big 4” accounting firm, where she advised senior executives of national companies on multistate tax planning and dispute resolution. This dual background allows Erin to approach estate planning with a practical, tax-driven perspective that distinguishes her practice.

Erin believes that effective estate planning extends far beyond the disposition of assets at death. It requires a careful balancing of tax considerations, family dynamics, personal values, and long-term objectives. She is particularly attuned to the realities her clients face — whether managing the demands of a growing business, raising a family, or navigating a period of transition — and strives to make complex planning approachable and actionable.

In her estate and trust administration practice, Erin provides steady, thoughtful guidance to executors and trustees during what is often a difficult time. She understands that grief and responsibility can coexist, and she is committed to easing the administrative burden so her clients can focus on what matters most.

Originally from New Orleans, Erin now lives in Charlotte's Dilworth neighborhood with her husband, Brad, and their two children. She is proud to serve the Carolinas and the community where she lives and works, and she approaches each client relationship with the same care and attention she would hope her own family receives. Outside the office, Erin enjoys spending time with her family, watching college football and her kids' sports activities, and planning her next international adventure.
